Grow Local Grow Equal is a research and advocacy project supported by UNESCO’s International Fund for Cultural Diversity (IFCD), launched to explore the dynamics of the Turkish music industry and eliminate the factors that lead to inequality.
The report titled “Grow Local, Grow Equal: Status of the Musician in Türkiye” analyzes the structural problems, gender-based inequalities, and regional disparities within the music sector in Turkey, drawing on the experiences of musicians as well as venue and studio owners. As part of this research, fieldwork was conducted in Ankara, Diyarbakır, Istanbul, and Izmir; 48 in-depth interviews were held, an online survey was completed by 371 participants, and roundtable discussions were organized with the participation of 107 industry professionals.
By creating a multilayered dataset on both live and recorded music ecosystems, the report offers concrete recommendations for an equitable and sustainable music policy. As one of the most comprehensive studies on the Turkish music industry to date, the full report can be accessed via the link below.
